(1) Features:
Heavy calcium
a The particles are irregular in shape and are polydisperse powders.
b. The particle size distribution is wide.
c Large particle size.
Light calcium
a The particle shape is regular and can be regarded as monodisperse powder, but it can be of various shapes, such as spindle shape, cubic shape, needle shape, chain shape, spherical shape, flake shape and square column shape.
b The particle size distribution is narrow.
c small particle size.
(2) Different appearance quality
Different packing density
The obvious difference between heavy calcium and light calcium lies in the bulk density of products. Generally, the bulk density of heavy calcium products is larger, which is 0.8~1.3g/cm3, while the bulk density of light calcium products is smaller, mostly 0.5~0.7g. /cm3, the bulk density of some nano calcium carbonate products can reach about 0.28g/cm3. The heavy calcium and light calcium products can also be roughly distinguished from the packaging volume of the product. Generally, the heavy calcium product is usually 25kg/bag, and the product packaging volume is small, while the light calcium product of the same quality has a significantly larger packaging volume. Some nano calcium carbonate The product is also packaged in 15kg/bag or 20kg/bag.
Whiteness
Because heavy calcium products have relatively more impurities and larger particles, the whiteness of products is generally 89% to 93%, very few products can reach 95%, and the whiteness of light calcium products is mostly 92% to 95%. Some products It can reach 96%-97%, which is also the main reason why light calcium products are mostly used for filling high-quality or light-colored products.
Moisture
Heavy calcium products have lower moisture and are more stable, generally 0.2%~0.3%. Some high-quality heavy calcium products can reach about 0.1%. The water content of ordinary light calcium products is 0.3%~0.8%, and sometimes there will be certain fluctuations. The water content of nano-calcium carbonate products varies with the type of product application. Some products have a moisture content below 0.1, while some products have a moisture content of about 1.5%.
(3) Different particle size and crystal type
Different particle sizes
The particle size of the heavy calcium product ranges from 0.5 to 45um. The smaller the particle size of the product, the higher the price. At present, there is no nano-scale heavy calcium produced industrially, but some fine calcium products contain very few particles with a particle size of about 100nm. . The particle size of ordinary light calcium products is generally 0.5~15um, and the particle size of nano calcium carbonate is generally 20~200nm. The identification method can adopt transmission or scanning electron microscope analysis and detection, which is more intuitive and accurate, and can also be determined by specific surface area measurement or particle size analyzer analysis and detection.
Different crystal forms
Due to the mechanical crushing and classification of heavy calcium products, the particle shape is irregular, also known as amorphous. The particle size of precipitated calcium carbonate products is generally more regular. For example, ordinary light calcium is mainly spindle-shaped, and nano-calcium carbonate is mainly cubic.
(4) Different performance during application
In the application process, heavy calcium products are mainly used in paper, rubber and plastic industries. The filling volume is generally large, mainly used as volume fillers to reduce the manufacturing cost of applied products. Light calcium products have a wide range of relative applications, mainly volume filling, while nano calcium carbonate products are often used as functional fillers such as modification or reinforcement in the application process, and the filling amount is generally small. The main applications of light calcium carbonate products are plastics, rubber, paints, adhesives and inks.
